New Changes for Homeowners Ending Tenancy in BC

** Update: In response to this feedback, government is taking action by amending the regulation to allow a notice period of three months and dispute period of 21 days for when a landlord issues a notice to end tenancy on behalf of the purchaser. The new notice period will be effective Aug. 21, 2024.

As a homeowner with rental properties, it’s important to stay informed about legislative changes affecting tenancies. Starting July 18, 2024, the notice period to end a tenancy in British Columbia will increase from two months to four months, as outlined in Sections 49 and 49.1 of the Residential Tenancy Act. This change aims to balance tenant rights and landlord responsibilities.
